Planet Heroes Program

About

"Bringing sustainability to you, one project at a time."

Climate Xero launched Project Planet Heroes (PPH) in support of  United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, on 22nd April 2020, Earth Day. Project Planet Heroes is our flagship peer mentorship program in climate education. The project aims to promote SDG 4.7 and 13 by providing a peer-mentorship based approach to enable the transition to a sustainable lifestyle with ease

Our comprehensive sustainability course covers a wide range of topics and eco-tips, including understanding sustainability, anthropogenic causes of climate change, reducing your carbon footprint, supporting local communities, understanding intersectional perspectives, among others. The program is open to all and is ideal for individuals who are new to subject or who want to deepen their understanding of climate issues.

Our team understands that making eco-friendly choices can be challenging & overwhelming at times. Hence, we focus not only on bringing cognitive awareness within people but also empowering them to make behavioural changes accordingly. Whether you’re a seasoned eco-warrior or just starting out on your journey, our program offers platform for everyone to learn & contribute to others’ learning.

Over the past four years, via this project we’ve worked with over 550 individuals, helping them to deepen their understanding of climate issues while also providing an opportunity to network with like-minded individuals & learn via a peer-to-peer mentorship model. Project Planet Heroes is all about encouraging people to take tiny steps everyday so that we can be more compassionate to the only planet that we have.

We believe that everyone has the power to make a positive impact on our planet, and by participating in Project Planet Heroes, you can become a catalyst for positive change in your own community.

Join us today, and take the first step towards a more sustainable future!

Learn more about what we do

The words ‘sustainability’ and ‘eco-friendly’ have had increased usage over the past few years, and every other person seems to be advocating being kinder to the planet.

The problem here is that many people don’t know what to do, where to start, and how harmful to the planet seemingly innocent actions may be. This program is for the people who would like to make a conscious effort to reduce their burden on the earth.

Starting on 22nd April (Earth Day) every year, applicants join us for a peer to peer enabled course on sustainability education.Over the years, Project Planet Heroes has been developed by incorporating inputs from experts from relevant backgrounds, helping make the program as inclusive as possible.

Vegan Wednesdays is an initiative we follow at Climate Xero and have inspired many people to adopt. Through Vegan Wednesdays, we encourage people to consume only plant-based food on just one day of the week (Wednesday). This enables people to explore veganism and its roots and realise that being vegan is easier than most people think. Just a few simple swaps, and you’re good to go! Will you be joining us for Vegan Wednesdays?

Veganuary is a worldwide movement where veganism and a plant-based diet and lifestyle and promoted and especially given importance during January. During Veganuary 2021, we posted Instagram stories every day educating our followers on the various aspects of veganism, and we also dedicated our January newsletter to veganism. We plan to continue our support and participate in Veganuary in the years to come as well.

We regularly  facilitate and organise community dialogues on various topics, such as the effects of COVID-19 on health and the environment, intersectionality, the examination of barriers to eco-conscious decision-making, sustainable dietary choices, and easily adoptable sustainable lifestyle adjustments, among others.

Additionally, we’ve hosted over 10 screenings of impactful films such as Cowspiracy, Chasing Ice, etc followed by insightful discussions. Participants from around the globe actively engaged, providing valuable contributions that played a pivotal role in the success of these discussions and events.

Restaurants and Eateries (especially roadside stalls) use a lot of plastic in packaging, cutlery, etc. The plastic used here is single-use plastic that cannot be recycled once it’s tainted with food. We aim to significantly reduce the plastic used by restaurants through this project and divert them to eco-friendly alternatives.

There is a significant issue of food waste in universities and schools, including leftover food and vegetable scraps. Unfortunately, these scraps often end up in landfills, where they release methane, a potent greenhouse gas. Our goal is to introduce composting in these institutions to create a circular and eco-friendly system, utilizing the compost produced for on-site gardens.
