World Plant Milk Day

In 2017, 22nd August was established as World Plant Milk Day. It’s an international day that celebrates the plant-based alternatives to dairy milk.

Great news is, over the years people have shown increasing interest in plant-based milks!

With World Plant Milk Day having recently passed, let’s discuss the major reasons to go dairy-free.

THREE HUGE REASONS TO GO DAIRY-FREE

Your Health

Not only is plant-based milk cruelty-free, but they also come with amazing health benefits. Regular consumption of plant-based milk has been shown to help prevent hypertension, obesity, diabetes, heart disease, and even certain kinds of cancer. Cow’s milk is not a necessity to be healthy. A dairy-free lifestyle also improves one’s mood and makes one less aggressive. Adding to all this, going dairy-free also leads to increased energy, less bloating, improved digestion, clearer skin, reduced asthma symptoms, less inflammation, and other lasting health benefits.

Our Environment

When it comes to climate change, animal agriculture is a leading culprit. It produces more greenhouse gases than all of the world’s transportation combined. The animals emit noxious levels of CO2, methane gas, and excrement that pollute our air and waterways. Making the switch is one of the easiest ways in which you can significantly reduce your impact on the planet.

The Animals

The dairy industry is a cause of major stress to cows. Due to the high volume of milk consumption, enormous amounts of milk have to be produced. For this, cows have to endure uncomfortable and stressful conditions. Moreover, a dairy cow’s life ends in slaughter, just as the beef cow’s does. So in the end, the dairy cow is slaughtered too and in fact, there’s more cruelty in a glass of milk than a pound of beef. Cows are overworked, exhausted and wounded in the process. Making the switch means that cows do not have to go through unnecessary torture.
